Policy: Equal opportunities
In order to meet children’s diverse needs I provide a safe and supportive learning environment. Within this environment there is an active promotion of equality of opportunity and anti discriminatory practice in which the contribution of all children is valued. Children have the right to feel valued, develop a positive self-image and be free from discrimination.
No person or child will be discriminated against on any grounds including racial origin, gender, disability, religion, lifestyle or culture. I shall challenge racist and discriminatory remarks, inappropriate attitudes and behaviour from both children and adults, including parents.
I will liaise with yourselves as parents/ primary carers to ensure your child’s ‘Child Record’ form contains sufficient information to enable appropriate care to be given.
Each child will be offered equality of access to opportunities to play, learn and develop to their full potential, taking into account the child’s age and stage of development, gender, ethnicity, special educational needs, home languages and any disability.
I will respond to the individuality of each child. Treating each child with equal concern, taking into account any additional or special learning needs they may have. Where children have been identified as having special needs, steps will be taken to actively promote their welfare and development and ensure equality of opportunity.
I will help children to develop a sense of their identity within their own racial, cultural and social group as well as offering the opportunity to learn about cultures which differ from their own.
I will help children to develop positive attitudes towards people who are different from themselves and help them to avoid prejudices, aiming for children to become sensitive and respectful of the needs and feelings of others.
