Highworth Childminder - Activities
Maxine plans the children’s activities weekly in advance. She keeps the
Birth to Three Matters framework in mind to ensure that children receive all
round development whilst they play. All activities are reviewed to ensure
the children get the best from each activity and to look for future
improvements or extensions.
The children enjoy a full week. They go out every morning either to a
playgroup, music class or story session. This ensures the children socialise
with larger groups of children. During the afternoons the children
participate in various activities.
Among the activities your child will be involved in are arts & crafts,
cutting and sticking, painting, modelling with dough, sand and water play,
helping to cook and bake and small world play. Story-time, singing and music
are also included.
Each term has a different theme. e.g. animals, jobs people do, festivals,
food, etc. Children may be asked to bring an object in from home to put on
our display (don’t worry, you will get it back).
The children have a dedicated playroom in which to spend time and the toys
are regularly rotated to fit into a theme but also to keep the children
interested. The garden is very large and completely enclosed. Garden toys
include a slide and tunnel, sand and water play table, spades, ball games
and a ride in car. The children enjoy planting seeds in their own patch of
land, caring for them and watching them grow.
Time is allocated every day for the children to play outside. There are also
opportunities for the children to choose what they want to play with (free
play). They have access to a range of toys that stimulate their minds,
imagination and encourage independence.
Children are encouraged to select toys and games for themselves and to put
them away when finished or wanting to move to another toy.
